Call yourself an Arsenal fan Piers?

This blog post is made in response to Piers Morgan's column in the Mail on Sunday.

Your suggestion that Arsenal went backwards this season is laughable. We may have lost to Chelsea twice, but the Manchester United game at Old Trafford was against the run of play and the defeat was down to individual errors.

The loss to Barcelona - the best team in Europe on their day - wasn't all one sided as you make it. Arsenal recovered from two goals down in the first leg if you remember, without Gallas or Arshavin on the pitch.

The second leg in the Nou Camp, was tough as we were without so many of our first choice 11.

Arsene Wenger has built something special at Arsenal in a tough financial climate and with the move to Ashburton Grove also having an impact on how much he can spend in the transfer market.

Cesc has a duty to this team. He was made captain last season. He has five years remaining on his contact and a commitment to the Arsenal supporters.

To leave now would be a dis-service to the club and a slap in the face to Arsene Wenger. He has made Cesc his midfield number one. Letting more experienced players’ leave to allow Cesc the chance to run the team on the field.

For six years, Barcelona won nothing. In that time they didn't have the financial constraints that Arsenal have had to endure.

This Arsenal team is coming of age. And with some choice signings, we can step up next season and fight for the Premier League and Champions League.

But for Fabregas to leave now, after he's been given so much time and tutor ledge by Wenger would be a poor legacy for someone who should be remembered as an Arsenal legend.

Cesc can win medals with Arsenal, He's still young and not even in the prime of his career.

I for one hope he sticks with us and honours the commitment the club have shown in him.
