The Arsenal Paper Round: Thursday July 8, 2010

This morning I would like to congratulate Cesc Fabregas and his Spainish team mates on reaching the World Cup final.

As you will know if you watched the game, Cesc started and finished on the bench. Which is a great shame for him. I hope it was just a case that Spain boss Vicente Del Bosque was just keeping him wrapped up following his injury scare in training on Monday night.

I hope that both he and Robin play at least a part in Sunday's final. It would be awful if Cesc in particular didn't get on to the pitch. I would expect Robin to keep his place in the Holland starting line up.

The deal we all knew was going to happen was officially announced yesterday. Laurent Koscielny joins us from Lorient.

Now we'll have to wait and see who else might come in, especially in the defence. I would suggest we need at least one more experienced player, rather than give the slot to one of our promising youngsters.
We've got Havard Nordtveit or Kyle Bartley who both spent time on loan last season.

I'm told that Bartley will again go out on loan this season, especially now there is no reserve team.

So I would one new face coming in, and give Sol Campbell another year.

A transfer rumour in the defensive area this morning from The Times, who link Gaël Clichy with a move to Juventus - if their Italian defender Fabio Grosso leave for Atlético Madrid.

Can't see it happening myself.

Even though we have Kieran Gibbs who is a fine prospect, Clichy remains our number one in that position.

We've just signed Koscielny and the possibly of a new goal keeper joining too, so to have a major reshuffle even though we did ship 41 goals last season in the league would go too far.

We've got a good core, but as our game against Barcelona shows, if we want to win anything we have to work harder as a team defending as well as going forward.

The Sun are linking us to a transfer battle with Liverpool and Tottenham for Shaun Wright-Phillips in a £6million deal. How many times? It's never going to happen. And if it did, surely that would be the end of Theo Walcott's career at Arsenal.

The Daily Mirror have a piece on Barcelona's finances and how they can't afford Cesc Fabregas.

Nice piece in The Sun about Robin Van Persie and his hopes for Sunday.

The Daily Star have linked us with a move for Mesut Ozil is a £20m

And in the Metro, we are linked with Holland World Cup star Rafael van der Vaart - if Real Madrid accept a realistic fee for the playmaker.

If there is anything to be talking about, you'll find me discussing it on Twitter.
