Schwarzer deal will go right to the wire, RVP injury jinx hits again, Silvestre signs, Redknapp to sign Adebayor?

Morning Gooners,

Well it's finally here. Transfer deadline day. In many ways I'll be glad when the days over. Like Arsene Wenger I think it should have shut when the league started 17 days ago. But hey, the world's not perfect.

The one big, will he, won't he, transfer involving an incoming player is Mark Schwarzer.

Yesterday The Guardian reported Shay Given was to stay at Manchester City and fight for his first team place. This obviously has implications for the Mark Schwarzer deal as the Ireland goalkeeper was their number one target.

Schwarzer has himself said he's ready and waiting for Arsenal to come calling.

"I'm biding my time waiting for things to happen and then I'll be on move - if you see what I mean. I'm hopeful, I'm always hopeful."
I think it is a sorry state of affairs that we're down to the final day of the transfer window waiting to see if this one happens. As the Daily Mirror's John Cross has said, he's been tracking this one since May 15.

In someways we haven't been helped by circumstance. Our first bid was knocked back, then Roy Hodgeson left Fulham for Liverpool, Mark Hughes was appointed manager and said he wanted to keep Schwarzer, we reminded Fulham our bid was still on the table, it was knocked back for a second time and then Fulham had to wait and see if their number one target Shay Given was prepared to move.

But I think in someways had we really wanted Schwarzer a deal would have been done by now.

I think Fulham must have other targets but if we really are going to make  this one happen it's got to start moving pretty quickly this morning.

The Sun say we're going to up our bid to £4million but I don't think it's so much about the price now and more about Fulham finding a suitable replacement for the Australian.

Plus they've also got his deputy David Stockdale out injured.

All in all, I personally think there are too many factors against this one happening today. In many ways I hope I'm proved wrong.

In other news this morning, it looks like Robin Van Persie could miss our opening Champions League game with Braga if his ankle injury is as bad as it is feared.

The Guardian and The Sun have more speculation on this one, but until we hear something official from the club I don't think we should get too worried about this. The main thing is he'll be recovering during the international break.

It has been confirmed that Mikael Silvestre has joined Werder Bremen on a two year contract.

And finally for this post, can Harry Redknapp make his own team more hated by his own supporters rather than its most hated rivals? It seems so, if this Daily Mirror exclusive is to be believed.
Bringing Emmanuel Adebayor to White Hart Lane would be a more difficult deal to pull off than signing William Gallas. But anything can happen in football.... if the money's right.
