Squillaci to be first choice, Wenger on Theo, JET on the move? Gallas out of pocket

Morning Gooners.

Well it seems Arsenal's long drawn out chase for a central defender is coming to a close with the news that Sevilla have confirmed they have accepted an offer from Arsenal for Sebastien Squillaci.

You see, it didn't take that long really. Linked with him on Wednesday night and then six days later he's flying to London for a medical.

And we had a week to spare. Who knows, there could be another new face in an Arsenal shirt by the time we play Blackburn next weekend.

Squillaci will add depth to our squad and this is much needed. The fee, in the region of £6million sounds like excellent business for a player who has international as well as Champions League experience.

Rumours suggest the 30-year-old will sign a three year deal.

The Daily Mirror think he'll come in as first choice alongside Thomas Vermaelen.

I don't think I could be more happy with this news. A thumping 6-0 win at the weekend and a new signing as well. Really I don't think you could ask for too much more without being greedy.

The man who made so many Gooners, so, so, happy was Theo Walcott and the manager Arsene Wenger has been speaking about the 21-year-old.

"I believe that Theo can score goals because when he was young he scored goals. I know it goes away a little between the ages of 18 and 21, when players adapt to the top level, but I think Theo can score goals and I am convinced he will finish in the middle.
"First of all he has good timing of his runs, and he senses when you have to go behind the defenders.
"And he has electric pace – once he is a yard past a central defender nobody in the world can catch him.
"He's quite a good finisher. He used to be too nervous in front of goal and rushed his movements. Now he is composed.
"But we forget that he is only 21 and most of the big players in your country had not started their international careers at 21. We forget that he is still a young boy because he has been on the circuit three or four years.
"That is a positive aspect of what happened to him in the summer. England didn't win the World Cup, but maybe next time you will with him!"
Now I don't think there is a chance Theo won't be going to the next World Cup, unless of course he's injured. He was so bright on Saturday and did so many things right. When you analysis his performance he did more things right than he did wrong and that's only a good thing because last season it was the other way round.

We all get excited about an Englishman doing well at Arsenal, because we don't have many to cheer about. But I think Theo will prove both Chris Waddle and Alan Hansen wrong and blossom this season in to the player we all want him to be.

I'm sure he won't let this performance go to his head. He's got Hansen's opinion to stop that. Keep doing what you're doing Theo and you'll improve no end.

In other news, the  Daily Mirror link Jay Emmanuel-Thomas with a move to Doncaster Rovers.

And finally, it's been revealed that William Gallas has been forced to take a pay cut to join Tottenham. Gallas was offered a one year deal by Arsenal worth £80k a week. The one year contract he signed with Tottenham is reportedly only worth £60k a week.
