Arsenal v Bolton Wanderers: Player ratings

Arsenal v Bolton Wanderers
At Ashburton Grove

Manuel Almunia - Had a solid game, despite the poor reception he got from the fans. Made a couple of good saves and wasn't at fault for the Bolton goal. Had little to do really as Bolton only had three attempts on target.  7

Emmanuel Eboue - Was conservative by his normal standards. Didn't get forward too much but that could have been down to orders to keep the central defenders protected. Should have been awarded a penalty in the second half. - 7

Sebastien Squillaci - Was impressed with how the Frenchman handled his first Premier League game. Formed a good partnership with Koscielny. Didn't put a foot wrong and had a chance to score with a header in the second half. All his passes were completed with 100% accuracy. - 7

Laurent Koscielny - Scored a goal on his home debut but responsible for Bolton equalising with a weak backward header towards Almunia. Learn from his mistake and otherwise was faultless. Lost four of his eight tackles.  - 7

Kieran Gibbs - Enjoyed a first league start of the season and like Eboue wasn't meandering in his forward play. Solid at the back but as always with our left back over exposed at times because the players ahead of him weren't tracking back to protect him and our defence. - 7

Cesc Fabregas - Had a first half to forget. Nothing seemed to be going right for our skipper but the second period was a different matter all together. Was  pulling the strings and has two assists to his name. Arguably he should have had a goal as well. -  8

Alex Song - Very solid game protecting the back four and goalkeeper. Tackles made in important areas of the field which halted Bolton in their tracks. His goal was a thing of beauty and yes, he did mean to do that. -  8

Jack Wilshere - Pretty anonymous game from the 18-year-old. Didn't seem able to get himself into the game. One positive was his ball to Fabregas to help set up the first goal.  - 6

Tomas Rosicky - Again our form player. Oozes class and everything good we seemed to do went through him. A superb ball in the first half put Andrey Arshavin through and the Russian should have scored. The one thing he does need to do is get on top of his shooting. Would love to see him score more goals. - 8

Maurone Chamakh - Not involved too heavily in the first period but made himself a handful for the Bolton defence, pulling them out of position so that his team mates could drift into the space left behind. Only had two shots and one of those was his goal, a headed effort from a Cesc Fabregas cross. -  7

Andrey Arshavin - Doesn't seem to ever be involved in the game too heavily, but when you look back at the statistics, he's been involved in the build up to three of our four goals. Still in my opinion needs to track back as Gibbs was left exposed on a few occasions. Good contribution overall. - 8

Substitutes

Abou Diaby - Came on for Wilshere and was on the field for just 13 minutes. Injured in a tackle with Paul Robinson. Made only seven passes whilst on, one of which was unsuccessful. - 6

Denilson - Made his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt this season and came through the came without aggravating his injury. Should  in my opinion pressed better late in the second half so we could have added to our score line. Made 47 passes in the 18 minutes he was on the field, just one was unsuccessful. - 7

Carlos Vela - Came on and added a cherry to the top of our cake with his goal. The build up to which was superb - twenty odd passes uninterrupted finished off with a lovely left foot shot. -  7

  1. Hey!! Why are all the players rated on the negative? xD

  2. With Diaby, his rating should have been = # successful passes/Total # of passes x 10.

  3. Having been at the game, I don't understand giving Wilshire a 6 and Arshavin an 8. Wilshise was tireless and usefull in possession, while Arshavin contributed very, very little. He was even shocked when he wasn't substituted...

  4. Arshavin missed golden opportunities and was rarely in the game, Fabregas was far from an 8 or even close to his best, Wislhere contributed a good deal in possesion, etc... sorry dude but u r kinda clueless if these ratings tell the story, good win though!

  5. Interesting feedback, thanks. If there is one thing which fans will disagree on, it is the involvement or not of a certain players having watched the same game.

Even though Arshavin was in and out of the game, he was involved in all our most important passages of play offensively.

I didn't think Wilshere was involved heavily and sometimes wondered if he was on the pitch at all.

If you agree/disagree with my ratings tell me how you would have scored each player?
