Nicklas Bendtner takes his first steps towards first team recall

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has started working with fitness coach Tony Colbert as he begins his comeback from injury.

The Danish international has yet to kick a ball in anger this campaign and was last seen playing football at the World Cup.

His last outing in an Arsenal shirt came in the goal less draw against Manchester City in the Premier League last season.

Since the summer a groin injury has kept him from playing football.

The striker is expected to spend two weeks working with Colbert before an assessment is made as to whether he is fit enough to join in with the first team.

Manager Arsene Wenger does not expect to have the striker available for selection for at least two weeks after his intensive work out with Colbert.

That could mean he may be fit to play in Denmark's World Cup qualifier with Portugal on October 8 and Cyprus on October 12 before he has a competitive minute under his belt for Arsenal.

His Arsenal return could be pencilled in for the home match with Birmingham on October 16.
