Shakhtar Donetsk v Arsenal: Player Ratings

Shakhtar Donetsk v Arsenal
Champions League Group H
At the Donbass Arena, Donetsk

Lukasz Fabianski - Solid performance from the Pole. Kept us in the game with a number of key saves. Couldn't do too much more with either goal  - 8

Emmanuel Eboue - Struggled heavily in the first half. Was beaten too often and his passing was sloppy. Came back with a stronger display in the second half  - 6

Sebastien Squillaci - The best of our defenders. Made some telling challenges when his team mates were unable to get their foot in. Should have scored with a header in the second half - 7

Johan Djourou - Wasn't at his best but I don't imagine coming in and out of the side does him any good when his performances this season have been so rusty. Sometimes got out of situations with luck rather than good judgement - 6

Gael Clichy - Certainly played his part in us conceding our second goal but even after his error Shakhtar had a lot still to do. Came back with a stronger performance in the second half  - 5

Jack Wilshere - The heartbeat of our side when more experienced team mates went missing. Was targeted for rough treatment by the Shakhtar players but kept his cool - 8

Craig Eastmond - Still developing and there are highs and lows from this performance. Needs to stay concentrated for the whole of the time he's on the pitch. Too often Shakhtar players would ghost in behind him. Bright going forward and didn't shy away from having the ball - 6

Tomas Rosicky  - Captain on the night and worked hard to try and win back possession. One shot I remember him having was more like a back pass. Wish he could find his shooting boots. Tracked back and put in a shift for his team - 7

Samir Nasri - Drifted in and out of the game and this was certainly not a performance he'll want to look back on fondly. Didn't seem to want to get involved until it was far too late - 6

Theo Walcott - Superbly taken goal from the Englishman which should have set us on our way to victory. Wanted the ball but was not effectively used by his team mates. Substituted after losing his legs going into the final ten minutes. - 7

Nicklas Bendtner - Not the come back game in the Champions League he wanted. Didn't have any decent service and when he did get the ball he couldn't control it or pass it to a team mate. Concentration levels need to be higher - 6

Carlos Vela - Was brought on for Eastmond and added spark to our game. Was dangerous and really looked interested in this one. Unfortunately sometimes his final ball let him down  - 7

Marouane Chamakh - Wasn't able to add to his Champions League record. Like Bendtner was devoid of service and  couldn't make an impact in the short time he was on the pitch - 6

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas - On the pitch for the final ten minutes and ran about and closed people down. Will be quite a player if he puts his mind to it. - 5
