Arsenal admit defeat in their attempts to keep Wellington

Arsenal have announced Brazilian teenager Wellington Silva is to leave the club on loan after they were refused a work permit for the player.

The club had hoped the 17-year-old - considered one of Brazils most promising talents - would be granted the document so he would be eligable to play this season.

However following an FA hearing at Wembley, the club have been denined the permit.

Arsenal appear to have decided not to appeal against the decision and look set to send the player, who had impressed Arsene Wenger considerably during training, on loan to Spain.

A statement on the club's official website said:
"Given his exceptional progress at Fluminese, Arsenal decided to fast-track his route towards the first-team by applying for a work permit.
"The FA hearing was held at Wembley on Thursday and the permit was not granted.
"Arsenal will now loan out Wellington to a European club and nurture his talent from there."
Wellington first expressed doubts on Wednesday that he'd be an Arsenal player from 2011 on Twitter.
