Is Jay Emmanuel Thomas about to join Wigan on loan?

There are unconfirmed rumours doing the rounds on Twitter that Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is set to join Wigan Athletic on loan.

At the moment they are just that, rumours.

But considering what Arsene Wenger said on Friday, a deal for the 19-year-old couldn't be too far off from taking place.

The manager said:
"Players like Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who need to mature to play, who don't get in the team at the moment.
"If I can find them a club in the Premier League I will let him go to let him have an experience like Jack Wilshere last year."

After making his debut for Arsenal in their FA Cup defeat to Stoke City last season, Emmanuel-Thomas has found it hard to progress this term making four substitute appearances.

However his manager has high hopes for him and believes sending the Englishman to an appropriate club to further his development would aid the 6 ft 3 in attacker.

Wigan could be that club with Wenger impressed with their style under manager Roberto Martínez.

If a loan deal were to be agreed between the two clubs, Emmanuel-Thomas would leave north London for a six months spell in January. He would be ineligible for the Latics trip to the Grove on January 22.
