Arsene Wenger will bite the bullet over Arsenal team to face City

In the Premier League since August 2009, with RVP starting Arsenal average 2.88 goals per game compared with 1.85 without him.
That statistic, from our friend Orbinho, is why Arsene Wenger must make a bold choice and start with Robin van Persie against Manchester City tonight at the Grove.

The manager has admitted he is wary about selecting the Dutchman in games because of his injury record.

In the past ten days he has started the games with Chelsea and Birmingham City.

He sat out of the game with Wigan, which Arsenal drew, so should be fresh enough to start tonight as I imagine he will not be involved again in first team action before the trip to Upton Park in ten days time.

Van Persie has given us a new dimension in attack following his recovery from injury.

Marouane Chamakh has performed superbly on his own during the time when van Persie and fellow forward Nicklas Bendtner were out injured. But his performances have dropped in recent weeks and that is perfectly understandable in his first full season in the Premier League.

The Dutchman seems to have benefitted from extra work with the Arsenal fitness staff ordered by Arsene Wenger following his sluggish performances against Newcastle and Spurs as a substitute.

Since then it's been more noticeable that van Persie has been getting back to his best with a good showing against Chelsea followed by a more inconsistent performance at Birmingham on Saturday.

I don't think the manager should be put off by van Persie's rustiness at St Andrews. The positive I would take from that performance was that he was getting into the right positions even if his shooting was letting him down.

That is why for me the manager should place van Persie's name first on the team sheet.

I think Johan Djourou should also start in defence alongside Laurent Koscielny.

The rest of the team should be the one which gained victories against Chelsea and Birmingham.
