Robin van Persie to captain Arsenal in Carling Cup final

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Robin van Persie will take over as captain for Arsenal's Carling Cup final tie with Birmingham City.

The Dutchman, who is vice captain to Cesc Fabregas, will assume the armband because of the Spaniards absence through injury.

Van Persie follows Kolo Toure, who led Arsenal out at the 2007 Carling Cup final and Patrick Viera, who wore the armband for the club when they picked up the FA Cup in 2005.

Wenger said:
"This team has a great bond and great determination. It is a pleasure to work with them."
