Wenger confirms Van Persie injury is worse than first feared

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Robin Van Persie has torn the ligament in the back of his knee.

The striker was substituted in Arsenal's Carling Cup final defeat with a knee problem which Wenger said would keep the Dutchman on the sidelines for at least three weeks.

Van Persie has been effectively ruled out for the whole of March.

The Arsenal boss said:
"Van Persie has a tear in the ligament at the back of his knee... it could be three of four weeks [before his return]."
