Hazard deal unlikely - Wenger gazumped for Gervinho? - Spanish wonderkid targeted

Morning Gooners.

You know what, after watching Carl Jenkinson's first interview on the brand new Arsenal Player, Manchester United can have Phil Jones because I want someone who wants to play for Arsenal Football Club and Carl Jenkinson certainly does.

He comes across as a very down to earth and likeable guy who knows he'll have to work hard in training for his chances on the field. He's a Gooner like you and I and that was the main reason he wanted to come and play for us. Not for the thousands of pounds a week he'll earn, but because he wants to wear the shirt and walk out on to the pitch at the Grove and do us all proud. Like Jack Wilshere, he's one of us.

I would like nothing more than to see him make a success of himself and cement a place in the first team squad. He knows he's got a steep learning curve ahead of him and will fight to get into the manager's plans. He's also under no illusion that playing at the highest level for Arsenal will be easy but he says he's prepared to work hard.

Jenkinson said:
"My dad brought me up as an Arsenal fan and I have been going since I was young. I even went to a few games last season. It is all a bit surreal, but it is a brilliant feeling to be here and I am really excited by it.

"I was always a big fan of Tony Adams and I am reading his book at the moment. He was always someone I looked at as a great player and a great leader.
"He is a player I can learn a lot from and I will be looking to follow in his footsteps."
Arsene Wenger said of his new signing:
"We were watching Carl for some time and he is a player with great talent and natural defensive ability, but also a powerful player who likes to go forward.
"He is a strong defender who has made quick progress with Charlton and also with the younger age categories for the Finland national team, showing many great qualities.
"We are excited that Carl is joining us and he will add strength to our squad."
Jenkinson has got to get past Bacary Sagna to get into his favoured right back spot but what a player to be learning from. The best right back in the Premier League if not the world. If the Englishman can be just as good we'll have certainly got ourselves a gem.

There doesn't appear to be any movement in the Samir Nasri situation despite saying earlier in the week that he'd speak about it after France's match with Poland on Thursday night. What he did in fact tell them that talks were on going.

Now it's my understanding that Nasri and his agent haven't been in talks for quite some time. Arsenal made the player what they deemed to be suitable for him, but Frenchman's camp haven't been back to the club to agree terms. In fact they've spun this out for a long time. Remember we wanted to sit down with Nasri last summer and trash out a deal but he declined our offer and it wasn't until the autumn that the two parties sat round a table to talk about a new deal. Perhaps we should have made an ultimatum then, but there were no signs that he'd be this difficult to pin down.

The BBC believe the club are of the opinion that Nasri and Gael Clichy, who also has just a year to run on his deal, will leave us. The Guardian take the same line. However the newspaper don't believe we've made an offer to Clichy at all. From what I've heard the defender was all set to leave last summer but things didn't fall into place. However I would be very surprised if the club hadn't made any effort to pin Clichy down to an extension.

With Liverpool rumoured to have made a £5million bid, I would hope that will flush out any other clubs interested in signing Clichy. Italy was his intended destination last summer. Perhaps that same club will come back in for him this time round.

Also included in the BBC report is a line about Eden Hazard. Arsene Wenger has been interested in him forever and a day, that's not news. However the Beeb report we're unlikely to get him this summer, but I imagine that could well change depending on how our other business in the transfer market goes.

One Lille player we certainly are interested in is Gervinho. The Daily Mirror report that Manchester City are trying to gazump us at the last minute with an offer for more wages for the player. And talkSPORT's exclusive that we've signed the Ivorian certainly has no basis. This one is certainly going to rumble on.

Nicklas Bendtner could be on his way to Turkey according to the Daily Mirror who say Besiktas will offer us £12million for the Dane who has three years remaining on his deal.

And it seems we're doing well to create more enemies at Barcelona with news we're after 17-year-old wonderkid Gerard Deulofeu, according to the Daily Mail. And talking of the Spanish champions, I wonder how Cesc's agent got on yesterday with his "meeting" with them....

Finally, Robin van Persie believes we can win a trophy next season if we make signings this summer. Read the interview in full in the Daily Express.
