Arsenal yet to bid for Alex Chamberlain say Southampton

Southampton say they've yet to receive a bid from Arsenal for teenager Alex Chamberalin.

The 17-year-old has been on the Gunners radar since breaking into the Saints first team this season, scoring 11 goals in 40 appearances last season.

The Sun this morning reported talks had begun with the south coast club on the transfer of the attacker.

However Saints manager Nigel Adkins has told the BBC that is not the case.

He said:

"We're not trying to sell him, he's had a good first season here and the important thing is he's still here.
"There's speculation linking him with other clubs but we want him to stay, and those are the facts."
"I had a good conversation with him this week, he had a good first season with us, he loves Southampton and he openly admits that.
"There is always going to be interest in Alex, not just from Arsenal but from every football club in this country and abroad.
"But he's training very hard with the players at the moment, doing his fitness tests, and we're looking forward to the campaign, it's as simple as that."
Last month Chamberlain's father Mark said he wanted his son's future to be in north London.

He said:

"To develop at a place like Arsenal can’t be a bad thing.
"In my eyes, I’d like him to go there as soon as possible, and continue his development."
