VIDEO: FC Cologne 1- Arsenal 2 (Gervinho scores brace on debut)

Ivorian international Gervinho showed Arsenal fans just what he's capable of with a brace inside 16 minutes.

Arsenal's summer signing scored his first inside six minutes, with his first touch of the game. Jack Wilshere threaded through a superb pass and Gervinho lobbed the goalkeeper.

Playing on the left of the attacking three, Gervinho added his second after 16 minutes. Wilshere was involved again as he released Theo Walcott who finds the Ivorian free inside the six yard box and he tucks it home.

The forward was withdrawn after 30 minutes being replaced by Ryo Miyaichi. There was no obvious sign of injury.

The Germans proved to be a tougher test that either of the teams the Gunners faced in Asia. With Lukas Podolski proving to be a threat to the Gunners' defence.

Just before half time, Carl Jenkinson inadvertently scored an own goal, lobbing Wojciech Szczesny from outside the box.

Arsene Wenger made 10 changes when the teams game out for the second half, with left back Kieran Gibbs being the only player who remained from the first half team.

The changes proved to take the life out of the game as Arsenal adapted. Andrey Arshavin had the most obvious chances to add to the Gunners lead.

Samir Nasri had some nice touches as did Robin van Persie.

Further substitutions were made with Conor Henderson coming on for Gibbs, the Irishman later having to be stretchered off with four minutes to go with a knee injury. Benik Afobe game on within the final minutes for Henderson.

Final score 2-1 to Arsenal.
