Three signed but will Wenger make a signing which will shock Gooners?

Morning Gooners.

It is Transfer Deadline Day and everyone is prepared to be either very surprised or feel very let down. So far we've moved for three players, one of whom has been officially announced.

We've completed the deal  for striker Park Chu Young, who is keen to be known as Ju, and who will wear the number nine shirt.

On his arrival at the club, the South Korea captain said:
"I am very honoured and I feel very happy to be at Arsenal. It is a dream to be here and I am really proud to be an Arsenal player. Now I just want to show how good I am and prove myself."
I don't know a thing about him. I've never seen him play so will hold any judgement on him. His goal rate isn't excellent, scoring 25 times in 91 appearances in France but if that's something he can add to his game in England, I'll be pleased.

We'll also announce today deals for Brazilian left back Andre Santos who will sign a four year deal with the club.

He flew in from Turkey yesterday morning to have a medical and agree terms.

And a deal which was a bit unexpected was the move for Per Mertesacker, the Werder Bremen defender.

The 26-year-old has been on our radar for some time but as we've been hearing from the media all summer he's been our fourth choice behind Phil Jagielka, Gary Cahill and Christopher Samba.

We've seemingly ended our interest in Jagielka and Cahill who we've had confirmed bids placed for and turned to the German international who was excused from national team training yesterday to complete negotiations on an £80,000 a week deal with us.

Last night Giles Grimandi hinted that we'd not finished our business and I'm inclined to agree with him. There is still a huge hole in midfield to fill following the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

I expect any business done today will focus on bringing in a top class midfielder.

There are several names already in the frame:

  • Yossi Benayoun
  • Florent Malouda
  • Yann M'Vila
  • Marvin Martin
  • Eden Hazard
  • Mario Goetze

However I wouldn't be surprised if we signed someone who we've yet to be linked with. Santos and Chu Park were totally left field, so why won't our new midfielder?

Whilst we've seen three players head into the club, we saw the departure of Armand Traore to QPR yesterday as well.

Nicklas Bendtner may still move out of the club and if we can find a new club for Manuel Almunia he'll be off as well.

After yesterday's excitement I'm sure it can be topped with one signing who will blow us away. Let's hope that £40m really is burning a hole in Arsene Wenger's pocket.
