Podolski preparing for Gunners move -Blackburn duo scouted -Argentine centre-back wanted?

Morning Gooners.

We'll start today with news that Lukas Podolski has agreed personal terms with Arsenal ahead of a summer move. Reports emerged from Germany yesterday which said the striker was happy with the offer Arsenal had made him and all that needed to happen was for the two clubs to agree a fee.

I know the club were keen to sign the German international in December ahead of the January transfer window, but a deal with Podolski's current employers Cologne could not be reached. That meant we instead went for the short term option of signing Thierry Henry on loan and the rest, as they say, is history.

It's clear we're in need of quality back up for Robin van Persie - who failed to complete Holland's open training session at Wembley last night. He came off the pitch with a minor groin problem but should be fit to play tonight.

Podolski has been on our radar for sometime, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that we're trying to do sort out his contract early - much in the same way we knew that Gervinho would be joining us last summer and it was down to the two clubs to haggle over a price for the player.

I think Podolski would be a fantastic signing for us. Not only can he play as a central striker but he'd also fit in playing in one of our wide attacking roles. He's also scored lots of goals in Germany. It's clear that Marouane Chamakh is not the player we signed and Ju Young Park cannot make it onto the pitch. So the manager has identified Podolski as one of the players who could do a job for us. Now it's down to Ivan Gazidis and Dick Law to make the deal happen.

Elsewhere there are reports we're scouting the Blackburn pair Steven Nzonzi and Junior Hoilett.

And finally, The Sun say Argentine centre-back Walter Samuel want to move to London according to his agent and that has put us on alert, along with Chelsea and Spurs. The 33-year-old wants a wage package of £90,000 a week according to the report.

Personally I don't think we'd pay a 33-year-old £90k a week. Plus we're not really in the market for a central defender at the moment. That is the one department of the team where we have more players than we need.

There are international games tonight. Let's hope all our players come through their games uninjured so the manager has a full squad to pick from for Saturday's game. More on what happens tonight in tomorrow's post.
