The Ox handed golden opportunity -M'Vila's showing Arsenal pedigree -Deadline Day!

Morning Gooners.

Well it seems like Roy Hodgson made a good call when he decided to call up Alex Oxlade Chamberlain to the England squad for Euro 2012. First Gareth Barry was forced to withdraw from the squad with injury and now Fat Frank Lampard won't be going to the tournament because of a thigh injury.

Both those injuries might not be good news for the respective players, but they push The Ox further up the pecking order in terms of playing time. And it's more than likely we'll see him play in the position Arsene Wenger sees him playing in for the Gunners when he matures and has more experience under his belt.

Alex probably can't believe his luck. He was selected to blood him in tournament football, ready for the World Cup in 2014 where he'll surely star for England. But instead of playing a bit part role as a super sub, I expect him to get some meaningful game time, especially if England progress through the group.

Roy Hodgson was quick to point out at the press conference when he announced his England squad for the Euros that one of the reasons The Ox was selected was because of his performance against AC Milan in the Champions League at the Grove where he starred alongside Alex Song, in place of the injured Mikel Arteta.

It was that game which convinced Hodgson that The Ox was up to playing at the highest level. Now he'll get more of a chance without Lampard and Barry blocking his route into the team.

It's a great opportunity for him to be handed - just by the luck of the injury Gods - and I'm sure that he'll grab it with both hands. If The Ox is given an opportunity to impress, I'm sure he'll let no one down. In fact for me, I can't wait to see him pull on the shirt and show everyone what he can do. We've all seen that he's not fazed with playing at the highest level having performed admirably in the Champions League.

In fact it's made Euro 2012 a more interesting tournament for me to watch as a Gooner. I'd love to see Alex do well out there.

Another midfielder The Ox could be coming toe to toe with if both are selected for the France vs. England game in ten days time is Arsene Wenger's first choice midfield target Yann M'Vila. The Rennes player got a knock to his ankle last night while playing in a warm up game against Serbia.

The 21-year-old will go for a scan today to see whether he'll be able to take part at the Euros. It was first feared the injury could keep him out of the tournament - but France coach Laurent Blanc hopes he'll be available.

Elsewhere there is little else going on in the Gooner world. It seems that Chelsea are trying to blow Manchester City out of the water in the transfer market after agreeing a £38m fee with Porto for their forward Hulk. An amazing amount of money for a player who has failed to impress me when he's played against us in the Champions League.

That's it for today. Don't forget if you've got a season ticket to renew, today is deadline day. Until tomorrow.
