Cazorla set to become Arsenal's record signing as Spaniard prepares for medical

Morning Gooners.

There appears to be just one story on the agenda today - the imminent signing of Santi Cazorla from Malaga.

The player is due to fly into London before the end of the week - with some media outlets reporting it could be within the next 48 hours. Now we've all heard the 48 hour stories before, the preparation of the medical facilities at London Colney for an imminent medical - that's another line which  is banded about.

But nothing will be done on this deal until Arsenal reach agreement with the Spanish club over the fee for Cazorla.

I'm told this is close. But the Spanish club are trying to get Arsenal to up their offer so it gets more than the €19million it paid to Villarreal last summer for the midfielders services.

The Daily Mail believe a deal can be agreed if Wenger goes in at €22million. It would represent Arsenal's highest paid transfer fee for a single player ever at £17.1m.

If Robin van P€r$i€ wanted Arsenal to show it's ambition, I think adding Cazorla to the already signed Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud is certainly the progression all Gooners wanted to see.

We limped into third place last season. The manager has made the squad stronger with the signings he's already made. The only senior player to leave the club is Manuel Almunia. And our rivals haven't made too many significant signings.

The club will be looking to move on some of the squad players who were hardly involved last season plus some of those who were on loan. But I don't think that will weaken us.

In fact I'm really excited ahead of the coming season. We've got 16 days to go until the real football is back and I can't wait. There are so many things to be positive about.

That's it for today. More tomorrow.
