Vermaelen or Arteta for Captain -Lolo's injury concern -Sahin stalls on Liverpool

Morning Gooners.

A very quick post today.

Arsene Wenger will make Thomas Vermaelen or Mikel Arteta his captain for the forthcoming season.according to the the Daily Mirror.

Personally I can't see the manager giving the armband to anyone other than Vermaelen, although his place in the team is questionable when everyone is fit. Arteta would be a good choice as would Bacary Sagna in my opinion.

Elsewhere, Laurent Koscielny is struggling to be fit for tomorrow's opening match of the season against Sunderland. The France international defender has a calf injury. He joins Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the sidelines. Theo Walcott is another doubt.

There is no further news on Alex Song's move to Barcelona. Talks are continuing but in the meantime Arsenal have requested that Nuri Sahin stalls on a proposed move to Liverpool to see what happens with the Cameroon interational, according to The Sun.

And finally Jack Wilshere is set to be handed the number 10 shirt following that Dutch bloke's departure. Not really a surprise. Jack has wanted that shirt for years.

That's it for today. The manager hosts his first press conference of the season later. It's bound to be interesting viewing.

And football is back tomorrow, when I'll have more for you. Until then.
