Vermaelen wants a response -Squad rotation required -£3.5m Diame wanted by Wenger

Morning Gooners.

After Sunday's match we've got no time to feel sorry for ourselves. Yes it was a disappointing result, but we've got a very important fixture with Swansea tomorrow night which we need to win.

It would be very easy for this team to feel hard done by. But this is no time for us to drop our heads and take on a defeatist attitude. The manager and the captain need to rally the players and make sure we give the best account of ourselves possible.

We've got the earlier league defeat to the Welsh side to avenge as well. The manager will need to make some changes to his team. I doubt many will expect the same players to be involved from the start after playing for 80 minutes against 11 men.

It will be a chance for some of our squad players to seize their opportunity to play in the first team. The void left by Mikel Arteta's calf injury needs to be filled. Abou Diaby won't be expected to play a second game within three days so soon after coming back from his lay off. And Santi Cazorla looked well out of Sunday's game and is generally in need of a rest.

So the likes of Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosciky will have to have a chance to play in this game.

Arguably our best player on the weekend - Jack Wilshere - also needs a rest but I don't think the manager can afford to take him out of the team. Yet again he was the one player who gave his all for the team. Drove us forward and wouldn't give up, despite the appalling challenges he faced.

Captain Thomas Vermaelen said:
"Jack will be important in the next three weeks, absolutely. You can see since he is back he is growing and growing. And I think at the moment he is at a good level.
"For me, he is a world-class midfielder and he can only be better because he is only young, coming back from a year injury. So I am really confident he will come back really strong.
"There are a lot of big, big fixtures coming up against good teams. They're coming up really fast.
"Against Swansea, I am confident the group will respond and confident we can get a result on Wednesday.
"It is a different competition. It is another game again. For us it is good, really quickly another game is always good after a defeat."

We have to take our chances against Swansea. We played very well for the majority of the second half against them in Wales. It was just disappointing we couldn't hold onto the lead once we'd got ourselves in front.

Things have to be different tomorrow night.

Elsewhere, The Sun have linked us with a move for West Ham's Mohamed Diame. He's one of the players who really stood out for them when we played them earlier in the season. If it's true he's available for £3.5m then the manager should seriously take a look.

That's your lot for today. See you back here tomorrow for more.
