Walcott closer to new deal -Villa and Sneijder linked -Trio to leave?

Morning Gooners.

So QPR won at Chelsea last night? That has to be one of the most surprising results of the Premier League season so far. With them dropping three points it brings them right back into the scrap for third and fourth place. And with us playing them in three weeks, if we win that game we can really close the gap.

The point at St Mary's though does still feel disappointing. The Daily Star today report Theo Walcott was playing despite having a heavy cold. It can to an extent explain why he wasn't at the races. However it doesn't explain why he hid behind defenders instead of being in space and available to receive the ball.

There appears to be a growing belief that Theo will be signing a new deal to stay at the club. That can only be a good thing in my opinion. We cannot continue in the way we've been going in losing our best players each summer.

And where's the benefit of putting eight years of development into a player if he leaves and fulfills his potential elsewhere. Arsene Wenger has put a lot of hard work into bringing Theo to the next level, so to lose him at the end of the season for nothing would be crazy. It doesn't appear from the outside that Theo's wage demands are that excessive either.

I would rather have Theo at our club than playing against us at least twice a season. And if the club can't reach an agreement with him - which seems increasingly unlikely at this point in time - it would be madness to sell him now. We need to secure a place in the top four and we'll struggle to do it without him.

Personally I'm more confident than ever that Theo will stay at the club.

There appear to be a number of players who are being touted towards us. Barcelona's David Villa is one and the Daily Mail say the Spaniards want £16m for the 31-year-old. Crazy money in my opinion and a deal which Arsenal should run away from as fast as possible.

Then there is Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder who the Italian club are looking to get off their books. But the buying club should be prepared to take on his massive wages of £200k a week, according to The Sun. Not a deal which Arsenal will be even thinking about with our strict wage structure.

But Wilfried Zaha is a player who is more obtainable. However if we do buy him in this window it appears that Crystal Palace would want to keep him on loan until the end of the season, according to The Guardian. It wouldn't be the end of the world if the 19-year-old didn't join up until the summer, at least we would have got our man.

Then there are the players who could be leaving. The Daily Mail say Andrey Arshavin is attracting the interest of PSV Eindhoven, while French side Lille are interested in Marouane Chamakh. And finally defender Johan Djourou could be set for a loan move to Germany with Hannover 96 president Martin Kind confirming their have been talks regarding the Swiss international.

With the manager confirming he'll be active in the window and the squad in desperate need of fresh blood, this month is certainly going to be interesting. We've got our toughest run of fixtures as well - Swansea, Manchester City and Chelsea - coming up. So our squad needs to be ready to compete.

That's it for today. Back with more tomorrow.
