Mertsacker says no -Wenger scouting teenage sensation -Another Barca player linked

Morning Gooners.

Unfortunately for us the international break is in full swing. This time next week we'll be looking forward to the Reading game but at the moment there is little going on.

That doesn't stop the transfer speculation. Let's put one thing to bed straight away, Per Mertesacker doesn't want to leave the club this summer.

He spoke to the German media about reports linking him back to the

He said:

"A change is not an issue. Our manager Arsene Wenger gives me absolute confidence, I play every game.
"I can think of nothing else, but to stay at Arsenal."
Mertesacker has been our best defender this term. He's been pretty much an ever present in the team and it's no surprise that when the manager made a decision to change his central defensive partnership after the north London derby, it was the big German who retained his position.

I like Mertesacker. I don't understand the unfair criticism he gets, more from the media than the fans. Yes, he's not the quickest. But he reads the game well and can spot problems and cut out balls before they reach a critical area of the pitch.

I don't deny we need defensive reinforcements in the middle of the pitch. But I cannot see the manager letting either Mertesacker or Laurent Koscielny leave. Thomas Vermaelen's future hangs in the balance for me though.

Elsewhere there is speculation in the Daily Mail linking us with a move for Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez. The 24-year-old Chile international has had a stop start career at the Nou Camp following his £22million move from Udinese in 2011. The report suggest the runaway La Liga leaders are open to offers for the attacker.

The Daily Telegraph and The Sun are in agreement over Arsenal's interest in West Bromwich Albion teenager Isaiah Brown. The newspapers claim we're set to battle with Chelsea for the signature of the £1m rated 16-year-old midfielder who hasn't signed a professional deal with the Baggies.

And another teenager on our radar is 18-year-old forward Daniel Carr, who plays for non-League Dulwich Hamlet. According to the Daily Mail he's been on trial with Liverpool but Arsene Wenger's scouts have been keeping an eye on him as well.

And finally, if you care about England, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has spoken to the Daily Mirror about his international career. Sadly it seems talking about Arsenal was out of bounds.

That's it for today. Back with more tomorrow.
