Wenger wouldn't turn striker down -Scouting team discuss Michu -Lolo Bayern bound?

Morning Gooners

Today all seems to be about strikers. And two names take star billing  - Wayne Rooney and Michu.

Arsene Wenger is a well known admirer of both players and has publicly spoken about his interest in the England International with Al Jazeera

He said:
"Rooney could be an interesting player for everybody in the world, who would turn him down?
"David Moyes’s first challenge is to go in to Manchester and bridge the gap between him and Rooney.
"If that is feasible or not depends on his personality and if Rooney bears a grudge or not, we will see. It will be interesting to see how that will be handled."
I can't read Wenger on Rooney. I think he has got a genuine interest in the player but I'm also not sure he's not trying to stir up the situation. And the player has hardly set the world alight. Perhaps he needs a fresh start and a move to the Arsenal could rejuvenate him.

His wages are a stumbling block for us. He's on £250k a week at Manchester United and there is no way we could match that. But the Daily Mail believe we're prepared to offer a five year deal on £170,000-per-week and a multi-million pound signing on fee.

And while Rooney isn't a 30 goal a season striker, he is a team player who will work hard no matter where he is played.

Michu is an interesting one as well. Having scored 18 league goals in debut Premier League season after his move from Rayo Vallecano, he was one of the stand out players of the season.

The Daily Mail report the 27-year-old has been discussed by Wenger and his scouting team as a possible target.

What's interesting when you look at Michu's goal scoring record is that he only netted three of those 18 goals after the Welsh side secured their league cup final win. That's a hell of a drop off. Does the season finish in February?

It would be interesting to see if Swansea were prepared to listen to offers for him. But I expect after just one season they'll want to keep hold of the former Rayo Vallecano player.

Gonzalo Higuain, Stevan Jovetic, Karim Benzema and Edin Dzeko are also strikers who we've been linked with. I sometimes wonder how many of them are genuine targets though.

It's clear the manager will add to look to his strike force. But does he believe we need to add a 30 goal a season man - and there's not many of those around who we can afford - or someone who does more than put the ball in the back of the net and will subscribe to our new team ethic.

Meanwhile the manager has admitted making a mistake over not signing Gareth Bale. The Sun have the story. And that's the problem with the transfer market... You can't buy every good player, unless you are Chelsea and then loan them out to other clubs.

There is also another story linking Laurent Koscielny with a move to Bayern Munich. The Sun says he's discussed the German club's interest with his team mates. Having only signed a new five year deal last summer, I doubt that Lolo will be off. I doubt the manager will be open to an offer.

And finally it's farewell to Denilson after it was revealed that he'll have his contract terminated at the end of the month. The player and Arsenal would have come to an agreement on the remaining money he'll be owed for the final year of his deal. I think it's the best decision for both parties.

That's it for today. Back with more tomorrow.
