Suarez is ours for £40m -Higuain deal stalls -French midfielder linked

Morning Gooners.

The Arsenal first team squad left yesterday for their Asia Tour 2013 and as expect there weren't any real surprises when it came to the group of players Arsene Wenger chose to take with him. Gervinho is missing due to sickness (make of that what you will) and there is no place for Marouane Chamakh who's future is not in north London.

The manager is however taking the highly rated goalkeeper Damian Martinez, to provide back up to Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski. While Ignasi Miquel will offer the manager cover for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny after it was confirmed that Thomas Vermaelen would miss the tour through injury.

It's the central defensive area which concerns me the most. Hopefully the manager will be adding another player or two in the weeks leading up to the season.

Today rumours have intensified over a move for Luis Suarez. It appears that Liverpool will be willing to do business if we submit a bid of £40m for the Uruguayan. The Daily Telegraph, who broke the original story of our £30m enquiry take the lead again on this story. They say that the Merseyside club will have to inform their player of our interest if we hit the £40m mark due to a clause in his contract.

They also highlight the fact Suarez didn't shun our advances when it was revealed to him we were interested in bringing him to north London in a radio interview earlier this week and that the 26-year-old is keen on a move to a club with Champions League football.

The Daily Mirror and The Sun have the same information on Liverpool's resistance to letting their star striker leave for less than £40m.

The Mirror report our efforts to land Gonzalo Higuain are faltering because Real Madrid want much more than the £23m we've offered for the Argentina international. Carlo Ancelotti also wants to keep the player in the Spanish capital and is due to talk to the player on Monday.

Meanwhile Alex Oxlade-Chamerlain has hailed the return to full fitness of team mate Jack Wilshere following his summer operation on his ankle.

The Ox said:
"One thing I have realised as he's gone through this, he is a much stronger character on and off the pitch. He has learned from it and has become a better man for it. He does a lot of stuff now to prevent these things from happening.
"He works really hard and is the first one in and last one out of training. To come through something like that, having not been able to play for so many months and always stay positive, is really mentally challenging but he did that really well.
"Last season he had a good stint in the team and now he is pushing on again."
It would be great to see Jack go a whole season without injury, but the way he plays it's unlikely he'll be that lucky. I'd love to see referees protect the midfielder more from the rotational tackling we see Wilshere targeted with.

Meanwhile the Daily Mail have linked us with a move for 20-year-old French midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia who plays for Sevilla.

They also say we've been linked with a move for Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul! I'm not sure we want his time-wasting sort at our place.

That's it for today. Back with more tomorrow.
