£6.2m reasons Flamini's happy -Signing Benzema, Ozil, Di Maria on TDD?

Morning Gooners.

Arsene Wenger is about to press the panic button. He must feel like all the luck in the world is against him as it was confirmed that Lucas Podolski would miss at least ten weeks with a hamstring injury.

Having already lost Mikel Arteta on the eve of he season, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the opening game of the season and now Podolski all to long term injuries is bad luck. However the fact is we do not have depth in our squad to adequately replace them. And that is negligence of the highest order from the manager, his coaching staff, the chief executive and the owner.

Ultimately though, the buck rests with Arsene Wenger. He has the "financial firepower" to solve these issues. If he doesn't bring in adequat players to the club and our season falls apart before it's already begun, then it will be on his head.

As the mother of AG said yesterday, you don't want him to leave on bad terms. And she's right, no one wants to see our most successful manager sacked and his legacy ruined by a problem which he can still fix.

This summer has been a shambles. We got ourselves in a position where we should have been able to go out and get the players we needed to strengthen our squad and to push on so that we could challenge for the title.

There is no denying that in the group of players we had at the club already, once the players who were surplus to requirements were moved on,  we were only a few good signings away from being in a great position to start the season with really optimism and momentum.

But we are where we are and with just four days of the window remaining open, this is now when we must got into the market as best we can to pick up at least five players to ensure we are able to compete with the rigors of playing in four competitions.

The manager told Arsenal.com:
"When you think that we lost three players of the stature of Arteta, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Podolski for three months basically before the season really starts, it's very hard to take and we are in a position where you want some more players."
Fine, we've tied up a deal for Mathieu Flamini on a three year deal at £40k a week (less than what Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's on  - £50k) but we still need more signings.

I like Flamini. I think he's a decent player and will do a good job for us. But even with his versatility in the squad we still need more players. He can't play in several different positions at one time.

Even if we were going to spend all of our transfer kitty on Karim Benzema, Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria, I'm not sure that would be enough. The Daily Mail think that's what the club want to do. And if we were able to pull it off it would be amazing.

However it appears that Spurs are mucking Madrid around over signing Gareth Bale in order to make it as difficult as possible for us to sign the trio. The Spanish club won't sell to us until they've signed the Welshman.

I've every hope we'll get some players through the door. It might not be that they are the truly exceptional players we were expecting the club to sign this summer.

And finally the Champions League draw. When Marseille came out of the hat, I thought we would end up with an easy group. But fate transpired against us and we got arguably the hardest two teams out of pots three and four in Dortmund and Napoli.

To be honest I'm not disappointed with that. They're all good teams and it should make Champions League nights more interesting given that it shouldn't be a walkover. Plus there are opportunities for some good away trips.
