Wenger working on noon deadline signing after Arteta injury -Williams bid revealed

Morning Gooners.

This summers inactivity in the transfer market in bringing players into the club is set to come back and bite Arsene Wenger, Ivan Gazidis AND Stan Kroenke because of injuries to key players.

It is being reported that Mikel Arteta is set to miss up to six weeks with a suspected torn thigh muscle.

But on top of the training ground injury to the Spaniard, there is cause to be concerned over Bacary Sagna, Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla.

It could be that we have just 11 senior outfield players available for tomorrow's game with Aston Villa.

However there is noise that the manager is working at bringing at least one player in before the Premier League noon deadline so that he is eligible to face Aston Villa.

He told Arsenal.com yesterday:
"There are 18 days to go [until the window closes on September 2], so that is a long time in the transfer market and we will be active.
"I cannot certify what the number of players coming in will be, but we will be active until the end."

Clearly the one player on site is Mathieu Flamini who is training with the first team while he's without a club. But there is no confirmation that the French midfielder is the player the manager is targeting.

Meanwhile in the Daily Mirror, Swansea have said any bid for Wales captain Ashley Williams must be doubled from the original £6m we've put on the table.

The manager is due to face the media later. His first press conference of the season is set to be a spiky one.

That's it for today. Back with more tomorrow.
