Absolutely disgusting! Players and Wenger let themselves down with Chelsea hammering

It was meant to be a special day for Arsene Wenger. But it turned out to be an afternoon to forget as Arsenal were hammered by Chelsea.

The Gunners went into the game on the back of a three game undefeated run with wins against Everton and Tottenham and a respectful draw against Bayern Munich.

But on the day Arsene Wenger's 1,000th match as Arsenal manager was marked, they were taken apart by a rampant Chelsea team.

It appeared nothing had been learnt from previous defeats against Manchester City and Liverpool. Wenger's side were behind after just four minutes.

Wenger kept with the same starting line up which beat Spurs 1-0 last Sunday. Kim Kallstrom made his first appearance of the season on the Arsenal bench.

Chelsea had the first chance after a misplaced Koscielny pass was pounced upon. Luckily Szczesny was off his line quickly to beat Eto'o to the ball.

Arsenal had a chance to take the lead in the third minute. Olivier Gioud got in behind the Chelsea central defenders and forced Cech to make a save after a scuffed shot. If the Frenchman had got a clean contact of the ball his shot would have asked questions of the Chelsea goalkeeper.

Instead it was the home team who pounced on an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's cross field ball which was cut out by Schurrie. The German played a one-two with Oscar and then played in Eto'o who finds the back of the net.

Two minutes later it was game over for the Gunners as Cazorla lost the ball and Matic pounced. Schurrie raced away and his powerful shot find the back of the net.

Inside the first ten minutes Chelsea were forced to make their first substitution when Eto'o substituted for Fernando Torres with a hamstring injury.

Minutes later there was controversy as a referee Andre Marriner points to the penalty spot after Oxlade-Chamberlain handled in the box. The decision itself was right, the player had touched the ball but the referee could not have seen the incident as too many players were in his way and his assistant on the far side didn't flag for the incident.

However Marriner wrongly sent off Gibbs for the hand ball and Arsenal were down to ten men. Oxlade-Chamberlain could be clearly seen on TV to tell the official that he was the player who handled the ball. Hazard scored the resulting penalty.

It was all Chelsea and they were again on the score sheet on the 41st minute. Koscielny failed to intercept a break down the left and Torres crossed for Oscar to score a fourth.

The Gunners had two chances before half time. Cazorla played in Giroud but his shot hit the side netting and Rosicky's left foot shot from outside the box is saved easily by Cech.

Wenger rung the changes at half time, replacing Koscielny and Oxlade-Chamberlain with Mathieu Flamini and Carl Jenkinson.

The substitutions made little immediate impact as Chelsea had the first chance of the second period, Mertesacker blocking a Torres shot and with Szczesny saving the Luiz follow up.

Rosicky was yellow carded for a late challenge on Azpilicueta. And then from Arsenal's first corner of the match on 52 minutes, Cazorla's cross was low and easily cleared..

The Gunners came into the game at this point as Wenger's ten men tried to excerpt some pressure on the home team. Good Arsenal pressure saw Rosicky play in Cazoirla on the left but his effort is just wide.

However Chelsea had the men and the upper hand. Oscar's shot is seen over the bar by Szczesny and then at the other end Flamini cannot make proper contact with an Areta free kick which is easily dealt with by Cech.

Chelsea's five was scored by Oscar from outside the box. Arteta could not get to a Rosicky pass and Oscar pounces and curls a shot around Szczesny.

And then five minutes later Salah scores with his first touch. Sagna tried to plays offside and the 21-year-old Egyptian runs through one on one with Szczesny and slides the ball passed the Poland international.

All in all a miserable day to be an Arsenal fan.
