Wenger: Spirit of players good - Giving Swansea two goals not so good

· Match report   · Wenger gives injury update

Arsene Wenger has bemoaned his players for "giving" Swansea two goals in Arsenal's Premier League game with the Welsh side this evening.

Gary Monk's team took an 11th minute lead through a Wilfried Bony header - their first attempt on target. But a goal and an assist from Lucas Podolski look set to put Arsenal on course for a much needed three points.

However Mathieu Flamini inadvertently scored an own goal and the Gunner had to share the points.

Wenger told BBC Radio 5 live:
"It's difficult to swallow because the team gave absolutely everything tonight. Their spirit was great. You wonder how we could draw the game like that. They had nothing and in the end it's 2-2.
"Basically we gave them the two goal but overall the spirit was great and we've got to recover from that last goal.
"You have to give credit to the players even though the result didn't go our way.
"When we were at 2-1 up we suddenly became too conservative because of what happened on Saturday and instead of continuing to attack we were more worried just to keep the score."
The draw leaves Arsenal in fourth position with 63 points, six points behind leaders Chelsea. They face Manchester City, who won 3-0 in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford tonight, in the Saturday evening kick off at the Emirates on Saturday.
