Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen is called up for Belgium's World Cup squad


Thomas Vermaelen has been called up for Belgium for this summer's World Cup.

The Arsenal captain has endured a frustrating season after losing his place in the starting line up to Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

But after playing in just 21 games out of a possible 55 for the Gunners this season, the defender is off to Brazil.

Belgium's World Cup squad

Goalkeepers: Courtois, Mignolet, Casteels/Proto.

Defenders: Alderweireld, Vanden Borre, Ciman, Kompany, Van Buyten, Vermaelen, Lombaerts, Vertonghen.

Midfielders: Witsel, Defour, Fellaini, Dembélé, Chadli, De Bruyne.

Attackers: Lukaku, Origi, Hazard, Mertens, Mirallas, Januzaj.

On Standby: Nainggolan, Pocognoli, Hazard, Gillet, Batshuayi, Van Damme
